Hurricane Irene
The Friday before Hurricane Irene was set to hit Cape May County, we'd been given a mandatory evacuation order for 8am, so of course we got in the car, with surfboards and cameras in tow, and headed over to the islands to make sure we could get on in case they closed the bridges at 8am. In the end, they didn't close the island to incoming traffic until 5pm.
We spent the morning, and a beautiful morning it was too (blue sky, soft breeze), boarding up some homes of friends and clients. Then the boys got in the water. Ironically, there was almost no swell as the storm was still much too far south at this point.
